Domain Names
Most computers connected to the Internet are identified by a unique number called an IP address (like 70.84.250.228). IP addresses are neither intuitive, nor easy to remember.
Domain names (like www.igzort.com) offer a more intuitive way to name and find a website. Each domain name replaces a string of meaningless numbers (the IP address) with a simple word or expression.
Subdomains
A subdomain is, for example, 'business' in business.yourdomain.com. If you register a domain, you also get all the possible subdomains of that domain. Subdomains can be very useful:
If your organization has a sales and a support department, you can create 2 subdomains, sales.yourdomain.com and support.yourdomain.com, for these 2 departments. If you have a personal site, you can create friends.yoursite.com, family.yoursite.com...
You can create subdomains from your control panel - 'Subdomains' section.
Traffic or Data Transfer Bandwidth
The amount of data that is allowed to be transferred between your account and the rest of the internet for a period of time. Each byte can represent a character. In 10 GB there are 1024*1024*1024*10, or 10737418240 bytes.
Is this enough for your website?
10GB will be enough for 95% of all existing pages in the Internet.
The truth about Unlimited Traffic
When you buy web hosting, you are placed on a server with several other people. Each of these servers has LIMITED bandwidth, and overtraffic is penalized. Therefore, it is technically not possible to have unlimited bandwidth.
When hosting companies offer you unlimited traffic, they rely on the fact that most web pages use only a small amount of their traffic quota.
In this way, even if your site creates more traffic, the surplus will be compensated by the low traffic usage of the other sites on your server.
If you review the terms of use of such hosting providers, you will find out that there are actually limitations - for example you will not be allowed to host music/video, as downloads of music/video create much traffic.
Even worse, in some cases companies offering unlimited traffic apply traffic shaping - this means that they limit the download/upload speed of your site. In this way if several people try to access your site simultaneously, they will have to share this limited speed. This will result in their connection to the site being slow, which is highly undesirable!
Remember - all resources ARE LIMITED! Offering anything unlimited is just a marketing trick!
We do not limit your site speed in any way. 5GB of traffic will be enough for 95 percent of all small business and personal sites. If you plan to have 500 visitors per day, or 15000 visitors per month, our plan is right for you.
Disk space or Storage
The amount of disk space that you are allocated on a web server. Most web pages are less than 100 KB in size, mp3 songs are typically about 4MB and most email messages are smaller than 5 KB.
100MB web space should be enough for most of the existing web pages.
Control Panel
The Control Panel is a user friendly program that allows our clients to control every aspect of their web site.
Databases - MySQL
A database is used to store data in a structured way. Databases are used by various types of software like shopping carts, forums and newsgroups.
You can easily manipulate your database from your control panel - MySQL. We also offer easy-to-use graphical interfaces to MySQL database, called phpMyAdmin.
Domain parking
Domain pointers allow you to "point" or "park" additional domain names to your existing hosting account. This will allow users to also reach your website when entering the "parked" or "pointed" domain into their browsers.
For example: if you park 1domain.com at your hosting account for 2domain.com, users visiting 1domain.com will see the contents of 2domain.com web page.
You can park domain names from your control panel - Parked Domains section.
Addon domains - the way to host many domains at one account
An addon domain is a domain name that points to a subdirectory within your account. For example, you may want mydomain.org.nz to point to business.org.nz/mydomain/ . Addon domains must be registered domain names that you own and configured to point to your web site's servers.
